New York’s Extra Butter loves a good movie-inspired concept, and its adidas Samba entry to the inaugural Consortium Cup back in February is another example.
As a winning design from the competition’s adidas Originals round, Extra Butter’s sneaker will finally see a retail launch tomorrow, November 22nd. Much more colorful than the ever-popular “Cloud White” take on the Samba, the pair draws inspiration from City of God, the classic Brazilian film from 2002 that’s become recognized on an international level. The bulk of the sneaker is dressed in a high-quality “Hazy Green” suede. Panels at the heel and tongue deviate in a “Praia” that’s meant to evoke imagery of bananas and the South American country’s sun. To further touch on the film’s eye-opening depiction of the economic and social disparity found across Rio de Janeiro, Extra Butter brought cracked leather and “repaired” zig-zag stitching to the adidas Consortium Cup winner.
Other nods to the 21-year-old movie arrive in the form of Praia-inspired Extra Butter logos on the spine and Copacabana walkway-informed patterns on the sockliners. Additionally, the New York-based institution has prepped the Angelica Futbol Jersey and Lil Ze graphic tee.
Enjoy detailed shots of the shoe ahead. Extra Butter’s Consortium Samba releases exclusively at Extra Butter locations (including Extra Butter Mumbia) and via extrabutterny.com tomorrow, November 22nd. The pair is priced at $140 USD and arrives in US Men’s sizes 4 through 14.
