The adidas Predator XLG Celebrates Football Heritage In Style

Another "Extra-Large" retro by the Three Stripes.

The adidas Predator football boot is days away from turning 30-year-old. To celebrate the occasion, the Three Stripes has recently unveiled a new version of the Predator boot, as well as launched the Predator XLG.

Unlike pairs worn by Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the adidas Predator XLG is not meant for the pitch. Instead, the shoe falls under the “adidas Originals” banner, meaning performance heritage is repackaged for everyday, lifestyle use. The chunky silhouette draws direct inspiration from the adidas Predator Accelerator boot from 1998, a design retrod in May in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Originals’ proposition, however, is much more accessible than the boot-version, given that only 998 pairs of the special boot were produced. Yet, the Predator XLG is unapologetically from the same era.

Presented in understated combinations of “Cloud White” and “Core Black,” the lifestyle take on the iconic football boot is inherently bold. Curved 3-Stripes branding on the profiles nods to the past. The leather base layer also features a number of rubber components across the toe and along the medial forefoot, preserving football heritage decades after the Predator Accelerator was worn by Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, and other world-class players. Underfoot, a curved, chunky sole unit likens the “Extra-Large” update with other adidas models rooted in Y2K aesthetics. Traction patterns are unquestionably meant for casual use, but nods to their origins on the pitch are evident.

Enjoy official photos of both pairs ahead. A stateside adidas.com launch has yet to occur, but the Predator XLG is now available in “Cloud White/Core Black” variations overseas.
