The Nike Air Flight ’89 will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2024. And while the iconic basketball silhouette has long-been overshadowed by other hoops models from the same era (and year), it’s proving it deserves more attention.
Over the last few months, the Scottie Pippen-endorsed silhouette has emerged in a handful of styles – including a three-pair collaboration with Stüssy. These offerings haven’t immediately sold out like most makeovers of the Air Jordan 4, a model that also launched in 1989, but they’re lasting the foundation for a milestone anniversary. More recently, two kid’s pairs of the 34-year-old design emerged in mostly-tonal arrangement. One style favors a pitch-dark look worthy of a “Black Cat” moniker, while another has surfaced in a grayscale finish. Both results are compelling enough to get even the most skeptical consumer onboard with the Air Flight ’89 as they boast heritage in versatile packages. The different shades of grey on the silhouette potentially form part of a larger “Cool Grey” collection, as other pairs from Nike, Inc. have also emerged in similar makeups. Whether or not the grey-and-white style will also land in Adult sizing is yet to be seen.
Firm nike.com launch details haven’t been shared by the brand as of this writing, but that’s likely to change as next spring rolls around. In the meantime, enjoy official photos of the pair ahead. Big Kid’s sizing of the Air Flight ’89 is priced at $120 USD.
