The Nike Vapormax Moc Roam is a fairly-novel silhouette rooted in centuries-old design cues.
Cushioned with game-changing Vapormax units (which have been modified since their debut in 2017), the lifestyle model mimics laceless moccasins traditionally associated with indigenous peoples of North America. Throughout the late 2010s, Nike offered two versions of a Vapormax Moc, although these propositions simply served laceless versions of a Flyknit upper. The recent Roam-edition, however, opts for a more protective construction that maintains – arguably improves upon – the sleek nature of the Vapormax Moc series. The slip-on design combines lightweight components with a utilitarian aesthetic, featuring a woven shroud across the upper instead of a knit build like previous offerings. Fuse panels reinforce the model’s top-half, connecting it to the futuristic sole unit underfoot. A wine-reminiscent, dark red animates everything from forefoot to inner-lining.
The striking Nike Vapormax solution below doesn’t do much in terms of color scheme, but it contributes to the sneaker’s refreshing look. Glossy plastic forms the bridge between the upper and visible Air cushioning, bringing a black finish into the mix. Part of the plump cushioning setup is painted in a similar dark tone, with rubber at high-wear zones following suit. Together, each aforementioned piece of the silhouette helps create an innovative take on a traditional concept, which is sure to win over fans of the avant-garde.
Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead, and anticipate a nike.com launch in the first-half of next year. The Vapormax Moc Roam is priced at $220 USD.
