Now, in collaboration with NYC vintage retailer Beyond Retro, Converse releases a set of up-cycled Chuck 70s using authentic, pre-loved floral garments.
It’s a true “you get what you get” release, which is not uncommon among sneakers that use secondhand or recycled materials. While it appears Converse aims to keep the color blocking fairly consistent, each pair has its own distinct variances when it comes to patterns and hues. Added features include PrimaLoft® insulation and diamond stitching on the upper meant to mirror the sneakers’ outsole print. These two elements combine to further enhance the sneaker’s vintageness by creating a quilt-like look and feel.
The drop comes in the midst of a time where up-cycling is all the rage on social media, especially among sellers and fashion-forward individuals with a passion for sustainability. The sneaker world has taken great strides towards a more eco-friendly future in recent years, with Converse’s parent company Nike playing a key role through its “Move To Zero” initiatives.
The Chucks come in both low-top and high-top models and clock in at a reasonable $105 for the lows and $110 for the highs. It’s unknown how many pairs Converse and Beyond Retro plan on releasing, so it might be beneficial to try and grab these while supplies last.
