Kawhi Leonard’s third signature shoe with New Balance, the KAWHI III, experienced some significant quality issues that forced it to be removed from shelves. After it debuted in February of 2023, New Balance only managed to drop two colorways of the model before pulling it from the market due to faulty lace eyelets. However, the brand and its top pitchman are only looking forward, because the New Balance KAWHI 4 is set to debut this Spring/Summer 2024 season.
Revealed in two colorways, the KAWHI 4 features a lower-cut silhouette compared to past models, which have been sporting something closer to a 3/4 height. An external heel counter is also introduced to the model. While official tech specs are unknown, it is likely that FuelCell will return as the primary cushioning, while Energy Arc, which debuted in the previous model, could also be featured as part of the total package in order to maintain the explosive, lightweight, and responsive properties that Kawhi himself requires in his footwear.
Two colorways are known thus far: one is quite unlike Kawhi’s public image of monotony as it utilizes a bright neon pink, whereas the second pair offers a more pedestrian mix of white, black, red, and cream white. Both feature Kawhi’s name at the heel stylized in different ways. New Balance branding stays minimal as the italicized logo appears adjacent to the uppermost eyelet, while KAWHI’s jersey number and logo sit on the tongues.
As of now, a release date is not yet known, but we could expect a release in February 2024 as that’s where the brand’s top-level signature shoe is scheduled for a release.
