Forgotten by many sneakerheads of the modern day, the Nike Field General has managed to insert itself back into the zeitgeist by way of a collaboration with Union LA. While that design only sparsely resembles the original model, the shoe’s namesake is working towards gaining a household status, and there’s no more effective way than a proper retro.

The Swoosh brand is doing exactly that as a first look at the Field General ’82 emerges via official images. Dressed in its classic white/red/black colorway from 1982, this athletic sneaker designed for gridiron warriors features a leather and ballistic nylon upper construction with leather Swoosh logos and heel-tabs. The outsole is where these athletes find stability as the rubber bottoms feature ample amounts of tread for multi-directional movements. Of course, American football footwear has advanced greatly in the four decades that have passed, but the the Field General is by far the style of choice among lifestyle enthusiasts that cherish that nostalgic, timeless look.

With Super Bowl LVIII just around the corner, Nike could be preparing a special launch to coincide with the sport’s most important game of the year. Stay tuned as we find out more details surrounding this long-awaited re-issue of the Field General model.
