The Sotheby's auction sells for record-breaking figure.

Another reason why Michael Jordan is the indisputable GOAT? Six of his game-worn and autographed sneakers just sold for a whopping $8 million to a buyer in the room during an auction event held by Sotheby’s. Dubbed The Dynasty Collection, this unprecedented collection of footwear memorabilia shatters the record as the highest-selling game worn sneakers in history; in the category of sports memorabilia in general, this set of six shoes is only surpassed by another item from Michael Jordan — a game-worn jersey that sold for $10.1 million in September 2022.

These aren’t your average set of game-worn and autographed Michael Jordan shoes. These are all six shoes from the clinching game from each of the six NBA Finals that Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls won in the 1990s. From his first title in 1991 wearing the Air Jordan 6 to hitting the legendary and inimitable “Last Shot” in 1998 in the Air Jordan 14, the connection of greatness to The Dynasty Collection is something we may never see again. Each are colored in that timeless black and red, just like the upcoming Air Jordan 4 “Bred Reimagined”.

For true Jordan fans, there’s no explanation needed for why the Air Jordan 13 is not in this picture. In case you didn’t know, Michael Jordan wore the Air Jordan 13 throughout the 1998 NBA Finals, but switched to the Air Jordan 14 in the second half of the final (and clinching) Game 6.

Since February of 2023, The Dynasty Collection has been on display at the world’s most prestigious auction houses, going on its own world tour of sorts in front of the most avid buyers in the high-end collectible market. Closing on the morning on February 2nd, 2024, Sotheby’s confirms the $8 million sale to a buyer in the room, whose identity has been undisclosed.
