ASICS has been rather shrewd with its GT-2160 strategy, carefully growing the silo within the crowded and competitive field with a calculated flow of product. From impressive in-house colorways to collaborative projects with emerging designers, the GT-2160 has quickly become a must-have due to its approachable price, uncompromising comfort, and flat out execution.
Next up in the stream of GT-2160s is this release by Earls Collection penned by its creative director Lewi Brown, who properly infuses his own Maori heritage onto the GT-2160’s design. Inspired by iconic touchstones such as pounamu, paua, and the weaving of flax, the design reflect Brown’s upbringing in New Zealand through a thoughtful choice of material selections — such as the woven base layer — and the burgundy/green combination of colors. The colorful insoles play an homage to the large seashells and stones common in the Maori culture.
The shoes initially launched this past weekend via raffle exclusively through Earls Collection, but a global drops is scheduled for February 23rd on ASICS and select retail partners globally.
