Matt Varga Bringing cultural mainstays and footwear is seemingly bigger business than it ever has been, encapsulating smashes like the budding Minecraft adidas partnership, the YuGiOh x Nike capsule that brought the “Air Muscle” to life, or the Naruto Crocs collection that pushed the series’ protagonists into Sports Mode. However beloved each of those franchises may be, all bow down to Pokémon, the highest-grossing media empire of all time, and adidas is nabbing the Pocket Monsters’ talents in 2026.
In the name of complete background, we will note that the adidas Pokemon relationship with the iconic franchise began in 2020, but since that kick-off effort, the newswire has run dry. As we look ahead to an earnest debut in ’26, the adidas ZX 8000 “Mewtwo” now comes to light, a design outside the purview of our initially reported information. Utilizing the chunky model for the daunting design of the longtime antagonist is only fitting, and much of this shoe aims at being as screen (silver or portable) accurate as possible. Purple eyes peek out from under the eye-stays, uniting with the overall “Lavender/Violet Fusion/Bliss Lilac” scheme, as does a Masterball sitting as a dubrae at the front of the laces.
In what might be the most radical choice, Mewtwo’s pointed ears sit as 3D extensions on the heel. Further, a closer look reveals a holographic depiction of Mew debossed into the leather before the finer points close with golden co-branding on the insoles. The two characters have been tied together for as long as they’ve existed, so perhaps this is an overall reflection of their shared narrative, but we’d be remiss not to note the possibility of “The First Movie” being in focus here.
All of that will likely be revealed as we approach the actual release of the adidas ZX 8000 “Mewtwo” shoes. While hard details are in short supply at the moment, we’re generally expecting this wave of adidas x Pokémon to touch down starting in Fall 2026.
