The New Balance 9060 has achieved its sleeper success somewhat unexpectedly. Rather than leaning into the dad shoe territory of mainline NB releases or the Y2K aesthetic that some of their newer models have, they’ve held onto chunkier design principles that for all intents and purposes, shouldn’t work as well as they do. Continuing to march on as a standout regardless of expectation, the New Balance 9060 “Olivine” present a clean, accessible option for those looking to (literally) buy into the hype.
Almost to a T, this pair is an inverse colorway of the New Balance 9060 “Dark Army” announced about a month ago. Sharing the same sepia and olive palette, where one color appears on the first, the other appears on the next.
For our purposes about the shoe in question, “Olivine” gives them their name because of its heavy use here, with the pistachio hue taking to the mesh underpinnings, the wavy protrusions on the midsole, and on the back half of the suede overlays. The naturalistic tilt of these is truly inescapable as you work your way through all the colors deployed here, from the “Dark Army”-esque hits of olive, to the dark brown of the outsole.
Though no US date has been confirmed just yet, the New Balance 9060 “Olivine” are already available at EU retailers, signaling that a stateside drop via newbalance.com is likely just around the corner. Once that day comes, these will command a retail price of $150.
Should these not be entirely your speed, check out another GR NB offering with the New Balance 1906R “Grey/Off White.”
