Updated March 27th, 2024: New detailed images of the Nike Kobe 8 Protro “Hollywood Nights” have been added, courtesy of @knowing_kicks. You can find a full gallery of them just below, with our original coverage around this pair further ahead.

Original article published March 16, 2024: Vanessa Bryant recently shocked Kobe nation with a first look at the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Deep Royal Blue”, revealing images of a hand x-ray imposed onto the upper of the shoe. Keeping on the topic of the late Black Mamba’s signature shoes, we’re now getting a first look at the upcoming Nike Kobe 8 Protro “University Red” set to drop later this year.

Quickly rising as a favorite among hoopers of the modern day, the Nike Kobe 8 reestablished itself as one of the most coveted basketball shoes on the market with February’s launch of the “Radiant Emerald” and “Court Purple” colorways. The silhouette surfaces again sans detailing as a monochromatic University Red engineered mesh is used on the upper, with white embroidered Swoosh logos, heel and tongue accents, and outsole traction completing the look.

Adapting a certified Team Bank style two-toned colorway, this Kobe 8 should be a common sight among players wearing red threads. It’s worth pointing out that this “University Red” edition features a modified tongue, whereas the retros like the Kobe 8 Protro “Venice Beach” feature the original flatter tongue.

Currently, a release of this red Kobe 8 is expected Fall 2024 in adult ($190) and GS ($120) sizes.
