With each successive Air Max Day, the Oregon giant takes a moment to reflect on one of the most iconic product lines in the industry’s history. Seemingly on an annual basis, that includes revisiting the Nike Air Max 1, the model that started it all. For the 2024 edition, it’s returning in OG fashion with its debut “Sport Royal” colorway.
The silhouette’s construction is modified relative to modern releases, with the Air unit in the midsole stretched to better reflect their original 1986 hardware. While this edition has returned a few choice times in the past, the 2024 colorway is also truer in terms of its palette, wearing more muted, saturated tones of grey and “Royal.”
Though this release will occur just under a week before Air Max Day proper, it can be seen as the soft launch of the festivities. The Nike Air Max Dn is the belle of the ball this year, its official launch in a smattering of colorways set for the 26th, but drops like the Nike Air Max 1 “Royal” with a volt sole also standing as a spotlight drop.
