Andrew Rizzo Olympics chatter is getting louder by the day, especially when it comes to basketball. Just as teams begin finalizing their rosters, one being a stacked Team USA squad, sneaker brands continue outlining their plans to capture as much ancillary hype as possible through new footwear.
To no surprise, Nike is leading the charge in that department. While the Jordan Brand umbrella prepares hyped-up drops like the Jordan 6 “Paris Olympics” in August and original red, white, and blue Jordan 6 “Olympic” later this fall, Nike’s basketball wing celebrates the game by dressing several of its tentpole shoes in team-neutral Olympic makeup.
The collection goes by the name “Shine Together” and honors the sport of basketball as a whole, not one particular Olympic team. A shared use of non-specific pastels and “Shine Together” insignias fulfill that ethos across four models; the GT Cut 3, GT Hustle 2, GT Jump 2, and Cosmic Unity 3.
All pairs feature gum soles and different light blue uppers except for the GT Jump 2, which strays from the herd with purple Flyknit up top. A circular basketball stamp inspired by Olympic rings appears sporadically across each shoe, taking to the insoles, heel, and tongue on models where the tooling permits.
