It’s become almost an industry-wide trend: minting brand holidays in order to spotlight new product. Most will be familiar with Nike’s Air Max Day, but over the past few years, New Balance’s Grey Day is gaining a ton of momentum. This year, the title is shifting a bit, hinting at multiple “Grey Days,” but there’s nothing let up in terms of the new special edition product on display.
In the spotlight here is the New Balance WRPD Runner, the futuristic chunky silhouette that so far has tended towards explosive, vibrant looks.
For the record, the shoe here remains consistent with what we saw in our preview of New Balance Grey Day 2024. It carries the same palette as a simultaneously announced New Balance 1906R, opting for far more toned down look than we’re used to. It largely lets its real estate to natural tonality; the titular light grey takes to short-grain suede overlays, while the off-white accenting throughout creates a faux-vintage atmosphere.
Though it’s not out of the ordinary for a company to include newly introduced models into showcase opportunities, this nonetheless feels like a vote of confidence for the WRPD Runner, already picking up momentum with the AURALEE collaboration released last month.
The New Balance WRPD Runner “Grey Days” will release on May 17th via NewBalance.com and associated channels, carrying a $150 retail price. You can find official product photos in the gallery ahead.
Sticking with the Boston Brand, take a look at the Jack Harlow New Balance 1906R as we await concrete release details for it.
