Before creating the best signature shoe line of the modern era, Kobe Bryant originally joined forces with adidas to champion the Crazy line of basketball footwear, spawning a series of memorable hoops shoes boasting the FYW technology. If you’ve been a fan since day one, the Crazy 98, in the familiar White/Black/Purple “Home” colorway, just returned on adidas.com for $150 (see the buying guide just below).

Before the Mamba became the calculated, on-court assassin in his later years, he was one of the most explosive athletes in the game. That profile extended well into the unorthodox design language of his adidas catalog, arguably peaking with the wavy construction of the then-KBII. Though his time with the Three Stripes was short, Kobe shoes still loom large over their modern catalog, exemplified by the return of that shoe with the adidas Crazy 98 “Home.”
For the historians, this pair was one of the first pairs revealed to the public, depicted in the above action shot taken against the Suns in 1999. This blend of “Core White” & “Collegiate Purple” hit the market in the shoe’s original run, but it’s remained in the archives since its only retro in 2014. Matching up with the iconic Lakers home jerseys, it’s a tone-on-white take for the ’98 model. Purple is applied in slight fashion, tinting the visible cushioning unit and the nylon Three Stripes branding down the side.
The adidas Crazy 98 “Home” comes our way in June, retailing for $150. Get a closer look via the official product photo embedded below.
