Andrew Rizzo NEEDLES and Reebok are back at it again with another Beatnik Slide delivery, building off the success of their 2018 collaboration with two essential, refreshed looks.
While the 2018 drop consisted of only one all-black pair, NEEDLES’ next effort brings a new tan version to market. The model’s base structure remains uninterrupted, but the lace strap is confined to the top portion, so you can’t put these in “sport mode” unlike the last delivery.
All in all, the shoes walk a fine line between the familiar and unique. Suede fabrics nod to the premium feel of Birkenstock clogs among other slip-ons, but the utility-minded nature of the lace strap and sole place the Beatnik Slide firmly in the realm of “gorpcore” footwear. Just like the last drop, NEEDLES’ hallmark purple butterfly logo comes stitched on the lateral panel of both shoes.
We saw NEEDLES spread its influence on Reebok Beatnik Moc colorways of the same nature just last year, but their collaborative Beatnik Slides have remained top-of-mind among cult followers of the Japanese brand. Surely they’re glad to see the partnership revisit one of its most renowned outputs.
