Nike continues its city-specific releases with a special edition Dunk Low designed by the citizens of Philadelphia. The Nike Dunk Low “Philly” is inspired by the hard-working blue collar nature of its citizens, while the artful interior mirrors the many murals that decorate building throughout the city. Nike partners up with Lapstone & Hammer and Creme, two renowned Philadelphia-based shops, to create the Dunk Low “Philly”, a love letter to its home turf in shoe form. To help unveil the project, Nike created a custom version of the shoes exclusively for the Philly Fanatic, who debuted a custom version of the footwear during the May 22nd home game against the visiting Texas Rangers.
As mentioned, the Dunks were designed in collaboration with two esteemed retailers of the area that know the sneaker community better than any other. With a stark grey exterior above a white leather base, this upcoming Nike Dunk Low “Philly” could be interpreted as a reflection of the hard-nosed, blue-collar, pull-no-punches attitude of its citizens.
Hairy suede covers the heel, while a grey splatter pattern appears at the forefoot overlays and the Swoosh, but contrasting it all is a colorful graphic laid on the interior, tongue label, and on the PHILLY text on the heel. These colors could possibly be a deserving nod to the well-known murals that decoratively bring life to the various buildings across the area. Additional Philly call-outs appear via the map coordinates on the laces, which point to specific location in the heart of the historic city.
So, where can you cop these? The Nike Dunk Low “Philly” will be dropping exclusively at retailers in Philly, starting with its co-creators Lapstone & Hammer and Creme on May 30th. A wider launch at Philadelphia-based shops is scheduled for June 1st, including the Philadelphia Phillies shop at Citizens Bank Park.
This release continues the Swoosh’s regional-exclusive drops in an effort to galvanize the sneaker community within specific locales. Previous dropped including the Air Max 95 “Atlanta”, and we expect more throughout 2024.
