Fashion trends have come and gone, but in Southern California, the Nike Cortez has remained a streetwear staple since it debuted in 1972. Local advocates will be happy to hear; there’s a new “Lakers” colorway dropping soon.

The delivery pairs one of the most iconic franchises in sports with one of the most iconic Nike silhouettes of all time, drawing appeal through a meaningful connection in lieu of flashy details. The Lakers’ unmistakable purple hue appears on the Swoosh and heel, while gold spreads onto the midsole accent, insoles, and tongue. Otherwise, white leather floods the base in a familiar, timeless manner.

This marks the second unofficial “Lakers” lifestyle Nike we’ve seen in recent months, joined by an Air Force 1 “University Gold” of similar nature. Notably, Nike has picked up the pace of Cortez releases in general in recent memory. We just witnessed the return of the world-famous “Forrest Gump” colorway earlier this month while fresh GR pairs continue to surface with relative consistency. This “Lakers” edition might be one of the most sought-after of them all.

We’ve yet to hear of a firm drop date, but all indications point to a Fall 2024 release for $90. See official images below and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page for more.
