Matt Varga As we’re still relatively early into the life of the New Balance WRPD Runner, it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the full suite of what Boston creatives have in mind for the silhouette. Previously relying on the classic formula of mesh, leather & suede, the maximalist model is getting wild in its latest “Snakeskin” outfit.
At least based on initial images, it seems that the animalistic print that drapes the overlays with this pair is in and of itself a bit unconventional. Rather than opting for snakeskin leather, the New Balance WRPD Runner grafts its pattern onto graphic suede, most easily seen where it intersects the same material in grey at the heel. As it works its way through mineral and midnight tones, those hues are reflected elsewhere on the shoe, a steely gray planted on the “N” branding and black grounding the composition underfoot. Rounding out with typical cream mesh underneath and an aged misole, the complementary nature of all the choices makes this one aesthetically accessible even considering the luxury switch-up.
