With the Celtics claiming their 18th banner, it’s officially off-season time. As we look ahead to next year, no doubt one of the biggest stories will be the return of Ja Morant and his Memphis Grizzlies into a stacked Western Conference, and sneaker-wise, the eventual release of his Nike Ja 2. With a new era on the horizon, it’s a perfect time to close out some of the loose ends from the South Carolina native’s first signature, and a major one is coming off the board- his Nike Ja 1 “Reverse Scratch” is finally getting a public debut.
First rocked on-court in February of 2023, the PE version hit social media feeds to a ton of fanfare, most promising to scoop up a pair were it ever to hit shelves. It makes logical sense; the first edition was one of a few standouts in the shoe’s rookie year.
Delivering on the promise of its title, this shoe mixes around the layout of that Vancouver Grizzlies design. The base is more conservative, draping the upper in pure white leather & synthetic mesh while matching it with a black Swoosh, sock-liner, and of course, the graphic claw marks across the lateral side. Throwback jersey accents liven up the profile with a teal stripe on the midsole, magenta towards the heel and bear brown on the tongue.
The Nike Ja 1 “Reverse Scratch” will release on July 1st, retailing for $130. It remains unclear whether it’ll be a SNKRS or Nike.com drop, but the demand for this pair is expected to be high either way- keep this article and our Sneaker Release Dates page handy for the best chance on drop day.
