Nike Experiments With The “Escape” Colorway On The Air Max 1

The iconic AF1 colorway and a seperate archival AM1 loom large.

Nike Experiments With The “Escape” Colorway On The Air Max 1

Nike is no stranger to revisiting a colorway. Even on the upcoming slate, the White Thunder Jordan 4 steps in well-trod territory, and the A Ma Maniere Jordan 3 heavily references the Black Cement Jordan 3. That playbook can stretch back decades, as is the case with this upcoming Air Max 1, borrowing its palette from the Air Force 1 Escape, also set to return in short order.

For the record, there’s no official “Escape” tie here, but with that pair’s renewed influence post-SNKRS Preview, it’s hard not to contextualize this pair with that autumnal edition in mind. In truth, this Air Max 1 is closer to a twist on the “Curry” colorway that captured AM1 devotees in 2003 & again in 2018.

The Swoosh swapping to black is the most obvious change, but the overlays also switch, pinning suede towards the collar and leather on the mudguard in an inversion from the OG. While purists can sit and analyze this new colorway for days, taken as a whole, it’s perfect Fall shoe to slide into wardrobe well before the leaves start changing, still carrying the classic AM1 appeal that’s made it a suitable choice for decades on end.

The Nike Air Max 1 “Escape” is set to arrive in the coming weeks, joining the Fall/Holiday Nike slate. Anticipate a retail price hovering around the $140 mark.
