The following was published on July 23rd, 2024:

The last two releases for Drake’s proprietary NOCTA Hot Step 2 model in “Total Orange” and “Triple White” came in March and May respectively. In the span between those drops and the time since, a lot has happened to say the absolute least, leaving footwear pretty far down on the priority list for the Toronto rapper. As things begin to cool off, it seems like a ripe opportunity to pick things back up where they left off, and some promo pairs bring us a first look at the Nike NOCTA Hot Step 2 “Eggplant.”

The pair referenced here has already had a big year, with the proper Eggplant Foamposites returning to shelves in February, followed by a LeBron 4 “Eggplant” colorway just a short while afterwards. Given the NOCTA Hot Step 2 already centers around heavy synthetics and a chunky base, refracting a model with shares those qualities is a readily synergistic choice. The side walls mirror that shoe’s composition in pretty faithful fashion, continuing the royal tonality through the mesh toe-box and tongue.

To our knowledge, Drake hasn’t ever laced up some Foamposites, or at least been photographed publically wearing them. However, given his true sneaker prime in the 2010s coincided with the latest great stretch for Penny Hardaway’s signature, this design reflects an appreciation for the model’s vaunted history all the same.

As of writing, concrete release details evade us. As mentioned towards the top, we haven’t had a release for Drake’s NOCTA Hot Step 2 in a few months, so we’d bet a public launch will come sooner than later. For now, enjoy in-hand images via @huntergyal.
