mita & ASICS is one of the sturdier collab relationships in sneakers. Uniting over a dozen times, few were more sentimental than the TRICO GEL-LYTE 3, released in 2020 to commemorate the silhouette’s 30th anniversary. Four years later, the Olympics has prompted them to revisit that shoe. The two partners are reuniting on the same retooled model, refracting the TRICO palette to pay homage to Paris.
In essence, this shoe switches up the colors while retaining the same hardware changes that made the 2020 edition so compelling. A zipper closure that transforms the GL3’s typical split tongue is foremost among them, but the quilted pattern around the collar is another seriously compelling detail. Silken geometric prints inside the collar, the chain link pattern at the quarter, and a rear pull tab (a very frequent touch across mita’s catalog) round out the intricacies at work with this pair. That leaves the colors; a suede cobalt toe-box, white foundation and red in the margins reflect the colors of the Tricolore flag, a synergistic allusion given Paris’ importance in why France represents those colors.
The mita x ASICS GEL-Lyte III “Trico 2024” releases on July 27th at mita and throughout Japan, retailing for ¥19,800. Global launch and pricing details haven’t been confirmed, but given where the two partners are based, it’s likely this shoe remains a Japan exclusive. Nonetheless, you can get a better sense of this release via the official images included ahead.
