In an effort to win back the hearts of sneaker collectors that paved the way for the business as we know it, Nike is bringing back some of the most storied grails that decorated the golden era of the culture. With news of the Wu Tang Dunk Highs coming back this year and the Undefeated Jordan 4 landing next year, it’s clear that there are no restrictions to what can come back as a retro. Now, it appears that the mythical PlayStation Air Force 1 from 2006 is making its return in 2025.
Originally appearing in 2006, the Sony PlayStation Air Force 1 was a promo pair gifted to select Sony employees in celebration of the release of the PlayStation 3 console at the height of the gaming console wars. A mere 150 pairs are rumored to be in circulation, with each pair possessing its own unique serial number of sorts while lacking a product SKU. One such pair made its way to Kobe Bryant, who graced the cover of the Sony-exclusive NBA video-game. The top-most photo was captured when Kobe was first presented with a pair.
Rumors of a re-release have been thrown around, but signs continue to point to a re-release. X user HoodyJandro, who was first to reveal the return of the Wu-Tang Dunks long before Nike confirmed it, tweeted back in May of this year that the PlayStation Air Force 1 would be coming back as well.
Rumors of a re-release also peaked in 2018. However, Sony and Nike released a completely new and different design.
This is a developing story, so stay tuned as we learn more details about this upcoming 2025 release.
