The New Balance 550 isn’t nearly as popular as it was a few years back, but the retro basketball-turned-lifestyle shoe still looks to play a big role in the Boston brand’s catalog for the foreseeable future. Following an extraordinary run in the early 2020s, the model’s current chapter has introduced a slew of different styles, with many of today’s releases leveraging unique materials, color blocking schemes, and to a somewhat lesser extent; different branding.
New Balance released two “Small Logo” 550s earlier this year, and now revisiting that theme once more, three more pairs are en route for Fall 2024. New Balance in-house designer Yue Wu cited “Postal Service” influence in regard to the first duo, but we see none of that this time around. Instead, the trio centers around vintage, retro-inspired treatments a la Aimé Leon Dore with likeminded colors and blocking.
The Boston brand swatches on grey, red, and teal accents across its latest 550 delivery, with all three options featuring white leather uppers and pre-yellowed laces and midsoles. In lieu of cut-out “N” branding on the lateral and medial quarters, each pair comes with a smaller, modern New Balance logo stitched onto the leather panel. Moreover, the heel branding consists of stitched “New Balance” text as opposed to the modern logo so as to avoid repetition.
All three options are slated to release on October 1st for $120 via New Balance and retailers. Scroll through official images below and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page to preview more upcoming pairs.
