Song For The Mute x adidas adiStar Cushion Releases September 19th

Australian menswear brand Song For The Mute and adidas first collaborated in 2022 and have re-convened several times since, forming a strong foundation for future projects based on archival, retro styles. With this September marking the two-year anniversary of their working relationship, SFTM and adidas are poised to release what might just be their best sneaker capsule to date. After touching up the adidas Shadowturf again earlier this year, the brand founded by Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty stakes claim to not one, but three adiStar Cushion colorways.

Some context about the model; the adiStar Cushion debuted in 2005 as a continuation of the famed adiStar running series. It was popular among both runners and lifestyle-focused consumers during its heyday, and given the broad consumer interest in technical Y2K running styles, the adiStar Cushion reclaimed a spot on the adidas catalog last year. On top of general release colorways, collaborations with Sporty & Rich and atmos (on the Cushion 3) have helped marked the series’ re-introduction. The SFTM x adiStar Cushion trio, set to arrive on September 19th, stands as the next big milestone in the model’s comeback tour.

The collection features a marsh-like green and blue colorway, conservative black/white/gum mix, and grey pair with metallic silver overlays. Key differences from your run-of-the-mill adiStar Cushion include leather stripes (as opposed to TPU), a different mesh toe box, and added pull tabs on the heel for an easier slip-on. Additionally, the same co-branded SFTM x adidas tongue seen on past projects is utilized, and a small tag reading “SFTM” just out from the quarter stripes.
