Dime and Vans are reprising their “Reanimation Series” with a special Vans Mixxa designed in part by Canadian skater Una Farrar, or as her Instagram followers know her, “Lil Tubsy.”
To the uninitiated; the Vans Mixxa is a relatively new model that marries late 1990s and early 2000s skate aesthetics with modern performance tech. Design-wise, its best compared to the Vans Ehkks from 1999, a shoe famously worn by AJ in “The Sopranos.” Emphasizing versatility, Una’s pair comes with a black upper and gum soles alongside a slew of cleverly blended details. The collar and midfoot feature a warped checkerboard pattern, delivering Vans and Dime hallmarks in one stroke, while Una flexes her artistic talent through self-drawn graphics on the insoles and lateral forefoot overlays. The former comes with heart drawings, while the latter alludes to her Irish roots with a four-leaf clover.
The Mixxa’s fat tongue and thick laces scream nostalgia, but its tooling is up to modern standards. Key considerations include a stitched-on cupsole, reinforced T-toe overlay, DURACAP rubber underlays, and a SickStick rubber outsole for premium grip. Una’s project stands as the second “Reanimation Series” release thus far, following in the footsteps of Geoff Rowley’s Dime x Vans Rowley XLT from last year.
The Una Farrar x Dime x Vans Mixxa will first release via Dime on September 21st before rolling out to select Vans Skateboarding retailers on September 26th. Expect a retail price slightly over the model’s standard $90 mark on arrival.
