Hello Kitty’s Big Red Bow Replaces The Stripes On The adidas Superstar

Hello Kitty’s Big Red Bow Replaces The Stripes On The adidas Superstar

Though Sanrio is no stranger to footwear, Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary has seen the Japanese media empire step into the sneaker game with a much higher frequency through 2024. The Three Stripes has been a major driver of those collabs, with the third grader gracing the Sambae and several Stan Smith iterations just this year. Next to enter the canon, a selection of Hello Kitty calling cards hit the adidas Superstar.

As promised, the bedrock of this collab is rather staid, the black & white Superstar that’s been a major player since the Run-DMC era. However, here it gets one of the biggest overhaul in its lofty history, entirely removing the Three Stripes on the lateral side and instead replacing it with Hello Kitty’s hair (fur?) bow. In raised linework behind, a silhouette of the character’s head lines up exactly.

For purists, don’t be totally alarmed; the original jagged Stripes are intact on the medial side. From there, ultra-wide ribbon laces further emphasize the frilly atmosphere here and golden co-branding on the tongue & insole redouble the 50th anniversary celebration.

Release info for the adidas x Hello Kitty Superstar is currently unknown, but expect this pair to land before the party’s over at the end of the year. For now, check out official images included just ahead.
