“Mushroom” & “Sea Salt” Create A Rich New Balance 550 For Fall

At this stage, it’s likely fair to class the New Balance 550 as the Boston brand’s version of the Dunk. While the industry-defining buzz around the silhouette has assuredly subsided, its simplistic, throwback composition lends easily to a myriad of looks in ways that buzzier models can’t.

With Fall officially underway, there’s no better time for the 550 to tackle an all-around earthy colorway. A growing trend on the model, a complete injection of suede defines this pair, split between a shaggier application for the tan “Flat Taupe” up top and a short-haired nubuck in “Mushroom” tan at the base. A speckled gum sole veers this look close to skater’s hearts underfoot, and conservative trim in black and white keeps the look grounded. This pair may not break necks, but it feels closer to what brought the New Balance 550 its dominant run in the first place: an easily reached-for pair that holds up well to wherever your day-to-day takes you.

The New Balance 550 “Mushroom” will be released on October 15th via NewBalance.com, teeing off exactly at midnight EST. If you’re interested in grabbing a pair, expect women’s sizing and a $120 price tag.
