A Way Too Early Look At James Harden’s adidas Harden Vol. 9

An over-achieving hit in the signature basketball shoe front, James Harden’s adidas Harden Vol. 8 has been a popular pick among ballers for its sharp yet avant-garde aesthetic. Almost devoid of any branding, the Harden 8 continues to be celebrated for its streamlined look, made specifically for step-backs and ballet-like footwork.

While we still have several more Harden Vol. 9 colorways ahead of us, we do have an early look at official images of its successor — the adidas Harden Vol 9.

With a similar 5/8th cut silhouette and a internal bootie construction housed in an outer shell, the Harden Vol. 9 follows a lot of the brand’s current principles across its performance hoops models. Unlike its predecessor, the Harden Vol. 9 is a bit more obvious with its adidas branding, although achieved in a somewhat abstract manner via the curved cut-outs on the molded upper.

The midsole is nearly identical to an adidas basketball shoe sample that has been floating around the circuit for months; that sample was originally believed to be the adidas Anthony Edwards 2, which the brand itself quickly shot down. The design of the traction is similar to the Vol. 8 given the two pivot-point emphasis’ at the forefoot. The cushioning platform is presumably the same BOOST and Lightstrike set-up carried over from the previous model.

While a firm release date has not yet been revealed, it is expected to drop in either late February or early March should adidas choose to follow their release calendar.
