The New Balance 550 Turns Back The Clock In “Moonbeam”

The women's colorway lands for Holiday '24.

The New Balance 550 Turns Back The Clock In “Moonbeam”

After a few months with less action than usual, the New Balance 550 is back in full force. A surge of fresh colorways unveiled over the past week reveal New Balance’s intention to push the lifestyle silhouette with renewed force for Fall/Winter. The recent spate of women’s exclusive pairs marches on with a simplified “Moonbeam” edition that harkens back to the 550’s prime years.

Jet black trim establishes a high contrast contour, reinforced with hits of grey mesh & nubuck towards the heel. Combine that with the off-white perforated leather and you’ve got something resembling “Panda,” yet the speckled midsole and gum bottom underfoot push this into decidedly vintage territory. Considering it was those aesthetic principles that propelled the New Balance 550 to the top of the industry just a few years ago, it’s fair to interpret this as “playing the hits.” Yet when the model is able to pull together a timeless look like this, it’s hard to argue with the thought process.

Expect to see the New Balance 550 “Moonbeam” on retail shelves and NewBalance.com this Holiday season. As mentioned towards the top, this pair will be a women’s exclusive; a $110 MSRP is confirmed.
