Sneaker News After a teaser image that shocked the world earlier in June, Nike has officially announced the release of the epic Wu-Tang Nike Dunk High with an all-time photoshoot including the legendary RZA and the trio of young hoop stars known as the Villanova Knicks.
Considered the leader of the New York City-based rap collective known as the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA is a visionary of multiple streams, lending his talents to rap, film, and production. He recently provided his signature on the 36 promo kits for the Wu-Tang Dunks that were recently sent to friends and family. He’s joined by Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges of the New York Knicks for a photoshoot that emanates the city’s gritty landscape that was a prevalent back-drop in the hip-hop scene in the 1990s. All three players are expected to wear the shoes on October 25th during their respective tunnel walks prior to the home opener against the Indiana Pacers.
The Wu-Tang Nike Dunk originally released in 1999 in hyper-limited quantity as a promo release; they commanding major dollars well before the era of re-selling, and it can be argued without fail that they not only opened the door to the massive Dunk fad of the early 2000s, but also the multi-billion dollar sneakaer reselling market.
Once deemed an untouchable sneaker obtained only by the mega-rich, the Wu-Tang Dunk release, all but confirmed by the @nikesportswear Instagram account back in June, sent shockwaves through the sneaker community. Nike released the shoes via a midnight Shock Drop in September; now, they’re finally ready to be launched to the wider public.
