Nike Classes Up The Field General With Newly Added Suede

The new material shift arrives with a familiar palette.

Nike Classes Up The Field General With Newly Added Suede

It’s hard to imagine a wider chasm between what a shoe was initially made for and what it stands for now than the Nike Field General ’82. In its (fitting) 1982 introduction, it was intended for true gridiron use, but its reintroduction for shelves has been as a lifestyle proposition.

Given that, it’s no surprise that ultra-simplistic colorways (with the exception of its Union collab) have been the home base. Further, the black and white edition on tap here revives a colorway we saw just months earlier, pinning white Nike text and Swooshes atop a jet black design. So what makes this a new shoe? Look to the heel and forefoot to spot the major difference, a switch to suede heel counters and overlays from its traditional leather arrangement.

The Nike Field General ’82 in “Black/White” drops in Spring 2025, retailing at $100. Watch our Sneaker Release Dates page in the coming weeks for further updates.

Elsewhere in Beaverton, all eyes are on the release of the Wu Tang Dunk.
