It’s a refrain you’ll hear often in basketball shoes: why are player exclusives so often better than what the general public gets access to? With brands increasingly tapped into public feedback, that gap is beginning to close, or even disappear completely: look at Nike queueing up the Book 1 “All-Star” that debuted as a PE or rumors of the Deion Sanders LeBron 21 hitting the market. While public reaction to GR AE1s has put it squarely in the sneaker of the year discussion, adidas is getting in on that action, with official images surfacing of the adidas AE1 Low “3SSB.”
For the uninitiated, the title and colorway here are derived from a high-top of the same name, sported by Ant in April 2024 and later gifted to adidas’ “Three Stripes Select” camp attendees. While the kaleidoscopic layout from that adidas AE1 proper isn’t adapted one-to-one, still the inspiration is clear.
On the Low version, there are slight changes to the rainbow pattern that drapes the fabric bootie, moving up the cooler shades in the priority list and matching that change on the tie-dye-esque laces. Contrarily, the outer honeycomb cage remains relatively faithful to the OG, with marbled orange detailing creeping onto an all-pink configuration at the shoe’s lowest edges.
While the date is subject to change (especially this far out), currently the adidas AE1 Low “3SSB” is expected to land on April 4th, 2025. Men’s sizing is confirmed, commanding a $110 retail price.
