KITH Puts Its Stamp On Historic BMW Models For Art Basel

In the ever-expansive world of KITH collaborations, it’s clear that their partnership with BMW has a special place. If nothing else, Ronnie Fieg himself boasts his own collection of archival M series models from the German giant, making all the more fitting that their 2024 link-up centers on that very umbrella.

While BMW M has been a beloved portion of the brand for fifty years, the sub-imprint has only released two models entirely on its own, chiefly focusing instead on upscale trims of existing BMW models. With KITH stating their goal was to “bridge BMW’s past and present,” the vehicle selection here is only natural; those two cars, 1978’s M1 and 2022’s XM, are in focus for this collection.

The German marque’s archives may be the primary player here, the “Frozen Techno Violet” finish on either car harkens to the two brand’s last link-up in their Chapter III, when “Techno Violet” proper played a major role. Each car additionally comes in sleek “Frozen Black.” Both are given a heavy dose of KITH branding, with custom leather work the highlight in that regard, and some modified tech specs on the M1, including a sized-up chassis. Either one are truly collector’s editions at the end of the day, but only the XM will be up for sale; pre-orders open on December 6th, with just 47 units up for grabs, each retailing at $199,000.

Finally, in more general release news, there’s of course an apparel collection coming alongside these two cars. It’s a massive selection on tap, ranging from jackets, sweaters, crewnecks, hoodies, rugbys, pants, tees, caps, car accessories and even some lifestyle items. All of these will be available at the brand’s Art Basel pop-up on December 6th, where the M1 and XM will be on display. A wider launch is set for the same day via the typical KITH channels (in-store, in-app, online.)
