New Balance’s Distressed 1906A Model Continues A Stellar Introduction In “Slate Grey”

Picking a favorite shoe is like picking a favorite child, but New Balance has tipped off their answer to that impossible question plenty in recent months. More than any other model, the New Balance 1906R has gotten some serious special attention, both in terms of inline colorways and offshoot models – the 1906U, 1906D, and 1906A builds showcasing how versatile the Boston brand considers the base 1906 build. For our money, the deconstructed “A” is arguably the one with the most potential, a claim that the “Slate Grey” look that just emerged helps bolster.

If you’re unfamiliar with this retooling, extended panels and jagged edges are truly the name of the game with the New Balance 1906A, a next-generation evolution of the “Refined Future” 1906D build that ran sneaker social media feeds not too long ago. Given that the neutral palette utilized here is one that wouldn’t be out of place on mainline 1906R pairs, that hardware truly steps into the foreground, though a faux-vintage midsole, asymmetrical white panelling at the quarter and a flare of fire red on the outsole helps this look stand apart.

The New Balance 1906A “Slate Grey” has already dropped via select global New Balance channels, including a handful of Asian markets. It’s unclear whether this portends a regional exclusive or just a shoe that hasn’t landed stateside yet, but a $170 retail price would hold when/if these arrive.
