Matt Varga Salomon may just have the most diverse rolodex in their corner of footwear, able to fit brands from KITH to VandyThePink to Maison Margiela all under their big gorpcore tent. Even in a crowded group, NYC womenswear designer Sandy Liang remains one of the brand’s steadfast partners, kicking off their mutual endeavors with a two-pair collection that they’ve renewed on a yearly basis since. For their initial foray in 2025, the partners are taking a laser focus on just one silhouette, pulling back the curtain on the Sandy Liang Salomon XT-Whisper.
For the unitiated, the silhouette itself is a relatively “new” proposition, revived from the Salomon archives in December 2024 in a mainline “Treetrop” edition. A women’s model through and through, the XT-Whisper’s history perfectly dovetails with Sandy Liang’s own design language. Hits of techy silver across the curvilinear overlays emphasize “downtown grit,” while the dominant soft pink tonality underneath carry through “playful femininity.” As with all of Salomon’s offerings, aesthetics are far from the end of what the shoe brings to the table, with Sensifit anchoring and the outdoorsy speed lacing system ensuring all-day lockdown in the process.
The Sandy Liang Salomon XT-Whisper releases on January 16th via sandyliang.info, with a wider global release via Salomon.com and partnering retailers following on January 23rd.
