Matt Varga adidas is in the middle of their country-wide “City Series,” a run of special adidas Superstar colorways celebrating the local flavor of some of the US’ most iconic locales. After kicking off the festivities with the Snipes Superstar, they’re heading down South to enlist Active Athlete for a rodeo-themed adidas Superstar.
The cowboy aesthetic is dominant with this release, beginning with the denim sidewalls and Three Stripes branding that hit on then timeless Americana staple. More abstract is the use of “Mesa Brown” through the toe, tongue and outsole, taken from the sandy tones of traditional cowboy bots and leather gear. As with the aforementioned Snipes pair, this Houston adidas Superstar rounds out with some additional details that drive home the narrative in playful fashion.
Most evident is the cowboy hat Trefoil hangtag, but touches like a meat-patterned custom insole with a spatula & barbecue fork, as well as the co-branded tongue with “Everyone’s Invited” text on the exterior and “H-Town” print on the interior add some final regional flair. The latter is said to express the inclusive, community spirit of rodeo season, a theme that plays out with the brands’ activation for this shoe, culminating with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s Black Heritage Night.
The Houston Rodeo adidas Superstar is available now via Active Athlete, with a wider launch coming via adidas and Hibbett on March 14th. Regardless of which channel you follow, expect a $110 sticker price. Check out official campaign shots embedded below.
