Matt Varga It wasn’t too long ago that we were putting the proverbial nails in the New Balance 550’s coffin. Put in less harsh terms, the silhouette seemed destined to be shelved until further notice as new colorways began to dry up towards the end of 2024. Rumors of its death were evidently greatly exaggerated, as to start 2025, we’ve been treated to a healthy dose of new looks, including first looks at a “Burgundy” New Balance 550 beginning to hit partnering stockists.
This “Burgundy” edition builds off of similar New Balance 550 layouts that’ve hit the newswire in the weeks leading up, including “Dark Juniper” and “Landslide” variations we’ve covered. Though suede underpinnings in contrast coloring keep to a relatively typical layout, the off-white overlays swapping between both suede and leather marks new territory, a revitalized spin on the same vintage stylings the silhouette has been championing for the past several years.
The New Balance 550 “Sea Salt/Burgundy” is already cropping up at select overseas retailers, a sign that this pair should be appearing via stateside New Balance channels for Summer 2025. Expect the standard $120 once it does.
