Matt Varga Now very much a part of the inline fabric and collaborative endeavors, the New Balance 1000 is adjusting well to modern life, holding onto street validity and starting to carve out its own aesthetic territory. Even if some of the novel color-blocking schemes the shoe has trotted out in recent months have been particular favorites, it’s hard to argue with certain staples, and the bloody New Balance 1000 “Blast Red” absolutely fits the bill.
Executing a largely two-tone layout with exterior leather notes of titular “Blast Red” and jet black underpinnings, it’s a real “put the ball in play” sort of edition, leaning primarily on an palette that’s been stylish for decades. However, the layered hardware of the silhouette allows for a novel spin, those shoe’s interwoven density particularly visible from a top-down view. To round out the look, trademark hits of grey dot the silhouette, from the “Stability Web” shank underfoot to the branding notes on the upper.
