Original article published May 28th, 2025:

We’ve spilled a ton of ink on New Balance’s “Grey Days” celebration, both a byproduct of and motivating factor towards their ironclad association with everything neutrally shaded. It’s that synonymous relationship that makes steps outside of that realm so noteworthy, an oft-explored range checked off with “Neon Nights” looks throughout 2024. Importantly, the New Balance 740 was included in that group, now factoring in once again via the “South Beach” edition on tap.

It’ll many more multicolor make-ups to close the gap on typical tech runner looks, but this “Cyber Jade” pair speaks to an overall willingness to trot the 740 out in unexpected color combos. We can’t recall another New Balance product that hit on the tropical combination seen here, pairing the aquamarine foundation with flares of bright pink at the quarter, outsole, and laces. Black and silver overlays ensure that this isn’t entirely divorced from the Y2K sensibilities seen on NB’s other runners, but you’ll be hard pressed to find as expressive of a colorway in the brand’s catalog.

Though it’s already appeared at select retailers, the New Balance 740 “South Beach” hasn’t surfaced via official NB channels just yet. Expect it to hit NB.com and the like in the coming weeks, commanding a $110 sticker price upon arrival.
