Air Jordan 40 “The Classic” Releases On July 12th

Jordan Brand has officially unveiled the Air Jordan 40, the ground-breaking fortieth model of the influential franchise that has shaped the entire basketball shoe industry. In full display is the debut colorway called “The Classic”, a super-elegant white/black colorway that mirrors the high-end and performance-driven aesthetic that has defined the Air Jordan throughout history. Read on to learn more about the AJ40.

The Air Jordan 40 ushers an unprecedented package of innovative cushioning, combining a ZoomX foam and a full-length Zoom strobel for the first time in Nike, Inc. history. No other shoe in the entire Beaverton catalog carries this package of engineered tech. ZoomX has proven itself to be one of the most impactful foams in sports, playing key roles in milestone achievements such as Eliud Kipchoge’s Breaking2.

The upper consists of a premium leather and a nearly unmarked upper; the sparse logo hits are found via the Jumpman on the tongue and the Nike Air on the heel. This level of understated elegance is not common in basketball shoes today as younger consumers have skewed towards the faux tech-y aesthetic. The Air Jordan 40 is the antithesis of that; it’s mega-sleek, yet packs an incredible punch underneath the hood.

The AJ40 is confirmed to launch on July 12th, 2025 in “The Classic” colorway. Two more styles have been confirmed: “Blue Suede” on August 20th and “Dusty Rose” on September 20th. Expect more colorways through the Holiday 2025 season alongside special editions, collaborations, and athlete-focused PE styles.

The fortieth model of the Air Jordan performance basketball shoe legacy has been revealed. Set to launch this Fall 2025, the Air Jordan 40 is a mid-cut model with a super-refined design that sees smooth leathers and minimally exposed stitching, once again setting the standard of groundbreaking design that has become synonymous with the most of the Air Jordan history.

These newly revealed images show off a full-length ZoomX foam midsole cushioning, although there is likely some additional tech embedded into the outsole as its predecessor, the Air Jordan 39, featured a proprietary package of ZoomX and full-length Zoom. A similar set-up could be involved for the new model, although we’ll wait for official specs to be revealed.

Recently, Jordan Brand athlete Trae Young posted some images on his Instagram showing off his off-season workouts. Curiously, he chose to pixelate his feet, shrouding the sneakers in secrecy. Although not confirmed, it is very probable that he was wearing the Jordan 40s.

As of this article, full release details are not yet known. However, Sneaker News can confirm that the MSRP will be $200 with a July 12th release date. More details to come; stay tuned to our Jordan Release Dates page for the latest.
