Retro running remains in focus.

The Nike Daybreak Is Back With Three Vintage-Inspired Colorways

The retro runner movement remains one of the real driving forces in sneakers, but Nike has continually looked far beyond the Y2K bounds that its marketplace competitors have fixated on. Bolstering bring-backs for football products like the Nike Astrograbber or Field General, the return of models like the LD-1000 or Pegasus 83 speak to how Nike has foregrounded its bountiful track history. Another step in that lineage, the Nike Daybreak, is evidently tooling up for another bring-back effort.

A gold-medal winning silhouette on the feet of Joan Benoit Samuelson, the Daybreak here appears true to its original Bowerman design, replete with simplistic panelling and the now-iconic Waffle traction underfoot. This marks the second retro for the silhouette in the past decade, following a spree of mainline looks in 2019 that followed extensive work by UNDERCOVER on the model itself and its adjacent Overbreak. Rather than kitting out the runner with inventive, off-kilter tweaks, the initial plan for the Daybreak is true to its roots, executing laidback, retro splits of “Limelight/Healing Jade,” “Blue Void/Diffused Blue,” and “Flax/Velvet Brown.”

The Nike Daybreak in “Limelight” and “Blue Void” are currently queued up on SNRKS for July 29th, retailing for $105 a piece. While the MSRP will likely hold, release information hasn’t yet surfaced for the Nike Daybreak in “Flax.” Get a closer look at these three introductory colorways via the official image galleries below.
