Matt Varga By now, we know that Nike doesn’t need an outside partner to reinvent any of its perennial silhouettes. The Nike Air Max 95 and how it’s celebrated 30 years and beyond is proof positive; the Zip, Tech, or Nike SB speak to their willingness to push the “Big Bubble” beyond its usual bounds. Yet the Nike Air Max Lux has been a fascination of Swoosh collaborators all the same. The plush spin-off, originally hitting shelves in the aughts before Supreme revived it for its capsule in 2019, is back in the consciousness once again via the Nike Air Max 95 Lux x One Block Down range.
We originally caught wind of this link-up via the all-black version, uploaded to official Nike channels and presenting a version of the Lux that hewed closer to the contours of the original. That is to say, while Supreme’s version and the original Lux utilized straight lines down the sidewalls, here the curvy waves on the side remain intact. Still, comprehensive leather uppers and plush textures overall do well to execute on the cushy promise of its title.
One Block Down’s latest announcement also brings three new colorways, all interpretations of its Italian homeland and the white/green/red of the nation’s flag. Beyond the stacked, bright gradients on the side, each of these three colorful pairs brings the T-toe and the tongue into ombre arrangements. Silver co-branded hangtags depicting the peninsula and flag-colored midfoot shanks ensure that the nationalistic aspects of this shoe are well understood by both the wearer and onlookers.
The One Block Down x Nike Air Max 95 Lux in white, red, and green are all exclusives to One Block Down, dropping solely via its Milan store. Retail for all four pairs is set at €200 or equivalent. The black pair will receive a wide launch via SNKRS on November 19th.
