Atiba Jefferson and Vans Hit A Photo Finish In First Collab Collection

In Vans’ own words, Atiba Jefferson is one of the most influential individuals in skating history. It’s something that the California company has seen first-hand through a longstanding association with the Colorado native’s other love: photography. Tabbed consistently to document the brand’s roster of sponsees and activations around them, Jefferson entered new territory within the brand in the middle of last year as he was named Vans’ Brand Curator.

Yet another checkmark comes off the board in their latest output, as Atiba Jefferson attaches his name to the Vans OTW Authentic. A black-and-white, mosaic-like pattern of Jefferson’s own photography graces the canvas icon, spreading comprehensively across the shoe even onto unorthodox sections like the midsole and laces. Outside of simply lending his name, we get some subtle co-branding on the interior, as an “ATIBA” stamp sits above the OTW by Vans imprint. The one accompanying piece of apparel breaks from the monochromatic fare of its counterpart, delivering a sunset palette with a lone skater on the back and front.

Though not mentioned in official press materials, Vans and Atiba Jefferson also have a version of the Old Skool 36 in all-orange accompanying this Authentic. Inside reports hint at a wider capsule to follow, many keeping to the flooded, one-color theme seen on the Old Skool. At least the Authentic is due out on September 18th via Vans, with a wide launch for the Old Skool queued up for September 25th via retailer calendars.
