The Latest Nike Giannis Freak 7 Is All About “The Drive”

But what does it mean?

The Latest Nike Giannis Freak 7 Is All About “The Drive”

Defenders know they’re at high risk of getting put on a poster when Giannis Antetokounmpo drives into the paint. The former NBA Champion and two-time MVP has long been one of the league’s most dominant finishers, and Nike has taken it upon itself to craft signature sneakers that match his explosive style of play. The latest Giannis Freak 7 colorway to surface is a black and “Metallic Gold” edition dubbed “The Drive,” set to release October 1st.

The meaning behind the nickname appears to be twofold. The first and most obvious inspiration is Giannis’s relentless will to score at the rim. The second, more internal layer nods to his determination and personal drive to become the best player he can possibly be. These themes materialize on a predominantly black sneaker, accented with “Metallic Gold” Swoosh logos and Giannis’s signature logo on the tongue and insoles. Underfoot, the lateral side of the tread spells out “Antetokounmpo” in light gum brown. Performance-wise, two key features stand out: Cushlon 3.0 foam for cushioning and an internal molded cage for a secure fit – a must when you play with the same voracity as the Greek Freak.

The Nike Giannis Freak 7 “The Drive” releases October 1st via nike.com and Nike Basketball retailers, priced at $115. See official images below, and stick with us for coverage on all the latest upcoming basketball shoes.
