Up Close With 2019’s Air Jordan 16 “Board Of Governors”

Getting a seeding package from the Jumpman is one thing. Being flown out to far-off locales for the annual BOG summit (formerly “Board of Governors,” recently renamed to the “Board of Greatness”) is another level entirely. Each year, Jordan Brand’s closest confidants — including A-list sponsees, long-time PE recipients, and, of course, the man himself — touch base in person to discuss the future of MJ’s footwear empire.

For our purposes, each trip tends to make our newswire as attendees let loose the ultra-limited swag included in the trip, but we’ve already seen the Jordan 1 Low OG minted for 2025’s guest list. Instead, today’s headline steps back the better part of a decade to the 2019 edition, as new looks at the Air Jordan 16 “Board of Governors” minted for the occasion now come to light. Crucially, we will note that this isn’t the first time the public has seen this colorway, as @solesupreme shared his personal pair soon after he himself attended.

Bearing its purpose sewn onto the interior tongue, the shoe immediately makes its exclusive atmosphere felt with a quilted overhaul of the exterior AJ16 shroud. In its default composition, the patent leather toe of the Air Jordan 16 makes it one of the dressier numbered Retros, but this “PE” doubles down on that vibe with bowtie embroidery on the tongue. Script detailing outlines the toe, now in suede, while what appears to be a neoprene collar section bolsters the gilded detailing throughout.

Lest you’re willing to shell out close to five digits for this pair, this shoe will remain exclusive to those who made the 2019 meeting of the minds. As with most exclusive product of this type, however, this pair is plenty to feast your eyes on. You can do precisely that with the gallery below or above — stay in the loop on what the brand is actually dropping via our Jordan Release Dates page.
