At this point, it’s a bit belated to discuss the “rise” of Salomon; their ascent is already all but complete. Now boasting many of the same A-list collaborators as the “big brands” and a nearly everyday sight on the feet of fashionable citygoers, the French company has all the hallmarks of a major player. However, even as they pad out their Rolodex, Maison Margiela MM6 has been arguably their most impactful partner, helping add runway validity to their earnest trail runners.

We make intentional use of that verbiage, as for their latest chapter, Maison Margiela MM6 and Salomon are ditching the trail entirely. Though the “Salomon XT” utilizes the upper of the Salomon XT-6, already a frequent sight in these two brands’ shared history, its lugged traction that’s made it a choice for outdoorsy types is drastically redone. The chief point where you’ll see that is at the midpoint, where the segmented split is entirely absent, pushing the cushioning platform here closer to a rocker sole than something fit to take on rocky surfaces. Perhaps to let that shift shine on its own, Margiela utilizes rather staid colorway options, hitting the eternal “Black/Silver,” an “Off-White/Black,” and likely the most energetic of the trio, a “Black/Red.” There’s also a bold yellow colorway of the ACS PRO dropping as part of the collection.
European retailers have listed the Maison Margiela MM6 x Salomon XT with an October 16th release date and a €380 retail price. Catch detailed shots of all three colorways included below.
