Andrew Rizzo Italian snow boot label Moon Boot is reuniting with adidas for another collaborative collection — a follow-up to the two brands’ inaugural project from last year.
Moon Boot was founded in 1969 — just one year after humanity achieved the surreal feat of putting a man on the moon. The puffed-up, lunar-esque aesthetic was a fad in the ’70s and ’80s but evolved into a legitimate fashion statement in the ’90s (famously worn by Napoleon Dynamite). adidas’ collaboration with the brand includes two classic Moon Boots, one in Core Black and one in Matte Silver, both featuring co-branding and cable systems that wrap around the upper.
The real intrigue, however, comes by way of another silhouette — the once wildly popular Ultraboost 1.0. The foundational Boost midsole remains intact, but the upper has been completely reimagined. Primeknit is swapped out for a padded material reminiscent of Moon Boot’s signature build. Whether that provides any true weatherproofing is unknown as of know, but the material is certainly more snow-ready than Primeknit (granted that’s setting the bar pretty low).
The lacing system borrows directly from Moon Boot design language, with three lace loops positioned above the midsole on each side. A strap covers the forefoot, anchored to the front portion of the outsole on both sides. Mirroring the Moon Boot spread, Core Black and Silver Metallic colorways will be available.
